Canine behavioural modification in Lisbon
Canine behavioural modification is the core of my work. I'm André Alves, a certified dog trainer (PSP, DGAV, NePoPo® Gold Graduate), and I deal with established behaviours, not parlour obedience. In-home across Greater Lisbon and online.
A problem behaviour isn't stubbornness or a character flaw: it's a response that works for the dog. Rehabilitating means identifying the cause, the triggers and the patterns that maintain it, and changing them.
Behaviours I rehabilitate
- Reactivity: to other dogs, people, cars or noises.
- Aggression: towards dogs, towards people, or resource guarding.
- Separation anxiety: barking, crying and destroying when left alone.
- Fears and phobias: of the street, of people, of fireworks and thunder.
- Guarding food and objects.
- Toileting indoors in adult dogs.
The part almost nobody works on: the owner
The owner's cooperation is decisive. I don't train the dog for the owner, I teach the owner to train the dog. That's why the result holds after the sessions end, and it's also why your dedication between sessions is part of the plan.
The three phases
- 360º Assessment: environment, routine and behaviour; causes and triggers; choosing the programme.
- Transformation Programme: tailored strategy, close follow-up, exclusive support materials.
- Maintenance: consolidation and independence from the trainer.
Frequently asked questions
How long does rehabilitation take?
It depends on the behaviour, how long it has been established and how consistent the owner is between sessions. The plan and the estimated duration come out of the 360º Assessment, not a generic table.
My dog is already 6 years old. Is it still possible?
Yes. Breed and age don't matter. Adult and senior dogs do rehabilitate, the process demands more consistency, but behaviour changes.
